Private First Class Frank Dixon Reed served in the European Theatre, Normandy, and Germany with the Army. During his service we was awarded the EAMET Service Ribbon w/two Bronze Battle Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Sharpshooter Badge w/Rifle Bar.

BIOGRAPHY

Lowell Reed was born northwest of Hope, KS, on a farm to Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Reed. He attended elementary school in Navare, KS. and graduated High School in the class of 1937 from Enterprise, KS. Reed was a distinguished member of 4-H in Dickinson Co. Kansas with a health record of outstanding recognitions. He won the right to represent the county at the state health contest in Manhattan, winning the livestock championship. Reed went on to the livestock exposition in Chicago in a national contest where he placed fifth. After high school, Reed worked for two years in the bank at Enterprise, KS.  then went to college at both McPherson and Emporia. He quit school when he knew he would have to go to the Army. He worked at home until he got the call. There was a long delay so he entered the business college at Salina and accepted a job at a bank to meet expenses. Reed entered the Army on April 18, 1942. Major Alan Reeves was a member of General Eisenhower's Headquarters Company of the Headquarters Command at SHAEF. Since 1993 through the end of 2000, Alan has been the National Commander of the SHAEF Veterans Association.

Graduated Kansas State University, civil engineering, 1940; Naval ROTC at K-State; Worked on Alaskan Highway until commissioned as Ensign in January of 1944; Served on ammunition ship, USS Wrangell; watched Marines raise flag on Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima on morning of February 23, 1945. In his own words taken from his diary, 'Marines got flag to top of Mr. Suribachi at 10:25.' He was a proud, humble veteran of the Greatest Generation.

Harold Gene Reid was born Feb. 6, 1921 in Edmond KS. "Gene" enlisted in the Army at Fort Leavenworth on August 11/1944. At that time he had graduated High School and was married to Shirley Dean. He served in the Asian and Pacific campaigns with the 68th Division. When he returned home he worked for the US Postal Service and was an assistant Golf Pro in Hesston, KS.
