Harry Stewart Jr. is a retired United States Army Air Forces officer and a Distinguished Flying Cross recipient who served in the 332nd Fighter Group. Harry shot down three German aircraft in a single day during World War II making him one of the few to achieve such a feat. He was also part of the team that won the United States Air Force's first "Top Gun" competition in 1949 and is one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen. His unit was the Red Tail which is determined by having the tail of the plane painted red. Stewart was born in Newport News, VA and was interested in airplanes from an early age. He dreamed of flying and even got his wings before his drivers license. Stewart volunteered for the Air Corps and learned about segregation on the train toward his training base. He became part of the Tuskegee Airmen flying a P-51 in Italy and other parts of Europe. Returning home, Stewart obtained a Mechanical Engineering degree and continued to fly as a civilian.
