Rex Ira Van Scoyoc received his Naval training at Great Lakes, Illinois. He also served at AMPH TR Battleship Squadron at Norfolk Naval Yard, Portsmouth, VA,; ATB Camp Bradford in Norfolk, VA; and U.S. AMP Base, Little Creek, VA. Rex Van Scoyoc was deployed to North Africa aboard the USS LST-350 (a tank landing ship). He served on the USS LST-350 for the entirety of the ship’s active World War II service; from February 13, 1943, to May 26, 1945. The USS LST-350 was assigned to the Europe-Africa-Middle East theater and participated in the Sicilian Occupation in July 1943, and the Salerno Landings in September 1943. USS LST-350 also participated in the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944, transporting Company "B" 48th Armored Medical Battalion from England to Normandy.
